ABORIGINAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT – GENERAL (Spareboard)
During the school year, Education Assistants play a key role in the success of our students. If your personal and family commitments allow you to be available between 8:00 AM and 3:15 PM then this may be the opportunity to make your knowledge and expertise count. On an as-needed basis you may work Monday through Friday for 16 to 25 hours but not on major holidays, Christmas or Spring Break or during the summer months. It could be a perfect fit for you.
The Aboriginal Education Assistant – General is a member of CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Local 947 and is paid at a rate of $21.37 per hour plus 11% in lieu of benefits. Starting on our spareboard will allow you to gain experience in any of our 45 schools and can lead to continuing employment when you are ready.
You must have:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- One (1) year Indigenous Community Studies program;
or Community Support Worker program;
or a Teaching Assistant Program certificate;
or equivalent post-secondary courses in child and adolescent development or behavior management.
- One (1) year specific experience working or volunteering in a leadership role with Aboriginal students, parents and the community.
- Ability to transfer knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, heritage, values and history.
- Transportation to any of the schools within the District that will allow you to start as early as 8:00 AM and finish as late as 3:15 PM.
Preference will be given to persons of Aboriginal ancestry.
