Job – Special Advisor to the President on Aboriginal Affairs
Memorial University invites applications for the position of Special Advisor to the President on Aboriginal Affairs. This is an outstanding leadership opportunity at a university committed to Aboriginal students and their communities.
As the Special Advisor, you will report to the President to advance all Aboriginal initiatives at Memorial University. The Special Advisor is involved in and helps to coordinate internal, multi-campus activities related to Aboriginal research and education; manages the Aboriginal Affairs Office and develops its strategic plan; takes an interest in the recruitment and success of Aboriginal students; develops and strengthens partnerships with Aboriginal communities; and, represents the University to Aboriginal communities and stakeholders, as well as to the governments of Newfoundland and Labrador.
The ideal candidate will have proven leadership, networking, research, and communication skills, along with extensive knowledge and understanding of higher education administration, along with knowledge of Aboriginal communities in Canada, specifically in Atlantic Canada. Candidates must be aware of federal and provincial Aboriginal policies and have direct experience with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders. Doctoral preparation in a relevant field will normally be expected.
