Aboriginal Adult Basic Education (AABE) Program Main Campus

The NEC Native Education College is a large private Aboriginal college in Vancouver and also works with First Nations and Aboriginal organizations to deliver programs in locations throughout British Columbia. We strive to combine academic excellence with a strong commitment to First Nations community-based education and the best practices of adult education. Aboriginal Adult Basic Education (AABE) students focus on achieving their academic and employment goals while learning and sharing their cultural knowledge and skills. Students work on achieving the BC Adult Graduation Diploma also known as the Adult Dogwood.

NEC is currently seeking casual instructor(s) for the following AABE courses:

Math 21/31 (Fundamental) English 21/31 (Fundamental)

These two courses are part of the Sima7 wi Aboriginal Adult Literacy Program funded by the Community Adult Literacy Program (CALP).

These courses are classroom based and is developed and taught from an Aboriginal cultural perspective. For course descriptions and further information about the AABE program visit our website.


Any combination of education and work experience as follows will be considered:

  •   Bachelor of Education Degree or a B.A. with a Provincial Instructor’s Diploma, or a Master’s Degree in a relevant


  •   Significant teaching experience in working with adults, preferably in the Adult Basic Education field;
  •   Excellent verbal, written and computer communication skills;
  •   Knowledge of Aboriginal values, communities, and instructional methodology, and experience working with

    Aboriginal organizations;

  •   Aboriginal ancestry or extensive experience working with Aboriginal organizations.


    Appointment to these contract positions will require a formal criminal record check which may preclude finalizing an offer of employment. This contract is dependent on enrolment. This position is open to male and female applicants. Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal applicants.
